Assistant Company Secretary – Energy

We are exclusively recruiting for an energy business based in North Yorkshire and the North East as they look to hire an Assistant Company Secretary who will join a friendly legal team reporting to the Company Secretary.  This is an exciting opportunity that has arisen as you will be joining the business as it is going through significant transformation and investment in modern, and smart technology. Working as part of a small and collaborative in‑house team, you’ll play a key role in supporting strong governance and ensuring the business meets its legal and regulatory obligations.

This role is ideal for someone looking to broaden their company secretarial experience within a complex group environment, with plenty of scope for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in preparing statutory accounts and accompanying narrative reports for group companies.
  • Managing company incorporations and handling post‑incorporation requirements.
  • Producing statutory information and governance reports as needed.
  • Carrying out annual compliance reviews, including obligations relating to anti‑corruption, modern slavery and trading disclosures.
  • Overseeing compliance with group reporting and notification duties under bond trust deeds, including liaising with trustees.
  • Supporting the administration of preference shares, including stock exchange announcements.
  • Maintaining accurate statutory records using company secretarial software.
  • Filing statutory documentation with Companies House.
  • Ensuring adherence to consumer credit legislation and FCA regulatory requirements.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proven experience drafting legal or regulatory documentation to tight timescales.
  • Confident interpreting and applying complex legal/regulatory information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, resilient and able to work effectively in a small team environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and using initiative.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Governance Institute membership (or currently studying towards it).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a company secretarial role.
  • Degree‑level education.

Desirable

  • Understanding of consumer credit regulations and FCA rules.
