Academic Governance Officer (12-month FTC)

Candidates can be based from one of the campuses in the following locations: London, Birmingham, Blackburn, Doncaster, Redcar, Bristol, Bradford or Liverpool.

Hybrid: c. 1 day/fortnight in the office

We have been instructed by a leading, government-funded national teacher training and educational research institute to appoint an Academic Governance Officer on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

This role will support the next phase of academic governance development, helping to strengthen governance arrangements, embed improved processes and support effective decision-making and accountability across the organisation.

Working with academic and professional services colleagues, the successful candidate will coordinate governance development activity and translate agreed improvements into practical, sustainable ways of working. A particular focus will be the development of research ethics governance processes and oversight arrangements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver agreed academic governance development priorities, projects and workstreams.
  • Translate governance improvements into practical processes, tools and ways of working, supporting their effective implementation.
  • Develop and embed improved research ethics governance processes, including workflows, guidance, tracking and reporting.
  • Monitor implementation plans, milestones, actions, risks and dependencies, supporting the resolution of barriers to delivery.
  • Work with academic and professional services teams to promote understanding, engagement and adoption of new governance processes.

 

What We’re Looking For

Skills & Experience

  • Experience within higher education governance, academic quality, registry or a comparable academic services environment.
  • Good knowledge of academic governance structures and processes within higher education.
  • Experience delivering projects, process improvements or organisational development initiatives.
  • Strong organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, alongside good analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent digital skills, including proficiency in Microsoft 365.

  • Collaborative and confident in building effective relationships across an organisation.
  • Well organised, proactive and comfortable coordinating multiple workstreams.
  • Practical and solutions-focused, with the ability to translate strategic priorities into effective processes.
  • Committed to the aims and values of the National Institute of Teaching and interested in the education sector.
