Overview
The MPA Group of Companies comprises the Music Publishers Association (MPA), the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) and Printed Music Licensing Limited (PMLL), sitting at the heart of the UK music publishing industry. Together, the Group protects the rights of songwriters, composers and publishers, licenses mechanical copyrights on behalf of over 42,000 members, and operates collective licensing schemes for printed music in education.
The role & key responsibilities
The Assistant Company Secretary will play a key role in supporting governance across the MPA Group. Reporting to the General Counsel, the role is responsible for coordinating board and committee meetings, including scheduling, preparing and distributing papers, taking accurate minutes, and tracking follow-up actions. The position also supports wider governance activity such as board elections, compliance with regulatory requirements, and risk management processes.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Manage and prepare the corporate calendars for the MPA Group of Companies (MPA, MCPS and PMLL) incorporating meeting and event schedules in liaison with the Chairs of each Board/Committee and subsidiary and sister organisations
- Coordinate Board and Committee meetings, preparing agendas and papers, taking accurate, timely minutes, and tracking actions.
- Assisting with the recruitment and induction of directors.
- Support the development and maintenance of governance policies, processes and procedures
- Maintain and manage the Risk Register
Experience & qualifications
- Strong experience of supporting Board and Committee procedures.
- Demonstrable experience liaising with and supporting senior stakeholders including Board directors, Chairs and external contacts, with familiarity with board election processes
- Qualified Company Secretary or studying for a qualification with The Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland (CGI) (desirable)
- Experience in the music industry would also be desirable, but not essential.

- You have excellent time management and organisation skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
