Overview
We are proud to be supporting a leading UK children’s charity in the search for an Interim Head of Governance (6-month FTC) based in London. This is a hands-on, standalone role within a well-established household name within the charity sector. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role will oversee the Chief Executive’s Office, ensuring its effective operation and acting as a key point of contact for a wide range of external stakeholders and supporters.
Key role and responsibilities
- Act as the Chief Executive’s strategic partner and trusted adviser, managing complex priorities and enabling effective decision-making across the organisation.
- Work closely with the Chief Executive, Board members and Executive Leadership Team to identify emerging issues, track progress on strategic priorities, and ensure alignment across directorates.
- Lead the co-ordination and production of the organisation’s Annual Report and Accounts.
- Provide high-quality secretariat support to the Board and its committees, including co-ordinating the annual meeting calendar, reviewing terms of reference, preparing agendas, circulating papers, recording minutes and monitoring actions.
Experience and Qualifications
- Proven experience in a Company Secretary, Head of Governance, or similar senior governance role within the public sector or a similar sized charity.
- Experience working closely with a Chief Executive’s Office and supporting a Board or group of Trustees.
- Strong working knowledge of company and charity law, governance frameworks, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- CGI qualification would be desirable, but not essential should the candidate be qualified by experience

- Proven ability to work effectively with Boards and senior leadership teams, building credibility and influencing at the highest levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage confidently with senior management, executives, and Trustees.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear, strategic advice.
