                                                                                                        A London Livery Company, which is involved in the running of several primary and secondary schools, is seeking an experienced school and academy trust governance expert to join them as Interim Head of Governance for a 3-4 month contract (ideally running from March to July). Reporting into the Director of Education, the role will be combining strategic governance leadership with hands-on oversight of boards, committees and governance operations. The postholder will act as the organisation’s principal governance adviser, supporting Chairs, Trustees and senior leaders to operate effectively, compliantly and with confidence. Key role/responsibilities:

  • Providing authoritative governance advice to Boards, Trustees and senior leaders
  • Ensuring effective operation of governing bodies and key committees
  • Leading trustee and governor induction, development and succession planning
  • Overseeing and developing the clerking function
  • Ensuring compliance with education, charity and company governance requirements
  • Acting as Company Secretary to the academy trust
  • Driving continuous improvement in governance practice

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Strong experience in senior school, academy trust or charity governance
  • Strong knowledge of governance best practice and regulatory frameworks in education
  • Experience advising Boards or Trustees at a senior level

  • Strong organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • A passion for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to manage and deal appropriately with confidential issues and data.
